NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in Pure Gold: Before purchasing Pure Gold, I had been using the illuminator in Gleam. I wasn’t really a fan and that’s because I wasn’t using the right colour. Gleam did nada for me, no glow, no luminosity and no dewiness – it just wasn’t the right tone. So, here I am thinking I’m stuck with Gleam for life (dramatic, yes) and then they finally open a NYX store in Ottawa! I swatched Pure Gold and I could just feel our connection. So I went home, mixed it into my foundation and we had a winner. It gives me a nice golden glow and adds a bit of dewiness as well.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit: This is Holy Grail right here! If you’ve been screenshotting #highlightinggoals photos, this one is for you. I didn’t buy any of the previous glow kits because they didn’t work well with my skin tone. The colours were too ashy and unflattering, but then this baby over here has me glowing to the gooooods! I also have the Anastasia Beverly Hills So Hollywood highlighter, I love the colour, but the highlighter is kind of chunky/sparkly. The difference between the Glow Kit and the highlighter, is that the highlighter is smooth – there’s no chunkiness, no excess sparkles or chunks of glitter, just a glow! And you have four colours to choose from so you can never go wrong.
NYX Conceal, Correct, Contour Palette in Deep: I’ve had this for a while and I used it maybe once or twice and I was over it. I couldn’t find my Black Opal Suede Mocha Foundation Stick to contour so I decided to use the NYX palette on a whim. Although I’m not a fan of the other colours in the kit, the darkest shade is bomb for contouring. It really blends seamlessly and leave no streaks.
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Biscuit: I’ve been using this concealer from the moment of its inception. It’s absolutely perfect. But lately, I’ve noticed that the colour just didn’t seem right and didn’t give me enough of a highlight. My skin tone is neutral with a touch of a golden undertone. I was using Caramel and I think the amount of yellow in the concealer was a bit too much and I needed something with more pink. So here comes Biscuit! I was wary to try it since it seemed very bright and too light, but it blends in seamlessly so there were no issues. It’s now my perfect highlight colour.
I need to inject some colour into my life, I feel like my makeup is becoming old. You can predict exactly how I will look on every day of the week. Nude lips? Check! Winged liner? Check! Bronzey cheeks? Check! How boring! I was browsing the Anastasia Beverly Hills section of Sephora and my eye fell on the Craft Liquid Lipstick. I couldn’t believe what was happening, was I having a positive experience towards a BRIGHT colour! Uhm yes, that what was exactly happening.
The packaging is nice and sleek. It reminds me of the design of the Colour Pop Ultra Mattes.
Just look at this colour, it’s so beautiful. It looks so beautiful on darker skin tones or against a tan. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks never disappoint. They’re long-lasting, but not drying. Here’s a swatch:
Highlight is life. Highlight is the center of my universe. My dream has always been to be a human strobe life and I do think I’m well on my way to achieving that goal. When I’m applying highlighters, I go for the tools that will give me the maximum glow which usually means large fan brushes. What I enjoy most about larger fan brushes is that they create a soft airbrush highlight with no obvious or harsh lines. And you can also dust off any excess on the rest of your face.
My two favourite fan brushes are both from Morphe Brushes. The first is the E33 which has the grey bristles. It is a little denser and picks up more product than the other. This whole collection is actually amazing, but I love that you can multitask with this brush; it can be used to bronze your face as well.
The M143 with the white bristles is fluffier than the first fan brush. This brush just makes my glow pop and does so with an airbrush-like finish. If you’re curious, the highlighter is the Anastasia Beverly Hills So Hollywood Illuminator which is my go-to daily highlighter.
What brushes do you use to apply your highlighters? Let me know below!
Anastasia Beverly Hills So Hollywood Illuminator
When I feel that my stock of a particular beauty item is low, I buy one, then another, then another one and that’s how the story goes. So once the highlighter bug bit me, I first bought the Mac Oh, Darling Extra Dimension Skinfinish and obviously it only made sense to buy the oh-so popular Anastasia Beverly Hills illuminator in So Hollywood. I’m getting another highlighter soon because I have to keep this addiction going obviously, but let’s talk about the So Hollywood illuminator for a minute.
I love the design of the highlighter; it makes for something interesting to look at. The tone of the is absolutely beautiful, a silvery gold. I find this colour super flattering and you glow rather than shine (my biggest pet peeve is looking like an oily disco ball).
I do wish there was a little less shimmer, don’t get me wrong, the highlighter is ah-maze-balls, but a little less shimmer and it would have been perfect.
Here are the swatches:
So I obviously need more highlighters, comment below which other I need to add to my stash!
Monday Morning Essentials
1. Allure Magazine: The September issues are my faves of all faves. I had to pick up this month’s Allure magazine with the gorgeous Jessica Alba on the cover. Who else wants to know all her beauty secrets?
2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Artist Palette: I’m going for a soft smokey glam this morning. So I used a bit of Dusty Rose and applied a bit of shimmer, Baby I’m a Star, on top.
3. Lancôme Définicils mascara: I wear this mascara when I want to go for a more muted glam yet, still elongated look.
4. LA Girl Pro Conceal: I use colour Cool Tan and early mornings are never the same without a bit of concealer.
5. L’Oreal True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator: This is a new and loved purchase. I have the colour golden and a hint of this in my foundation helps me to fake a well-rested glow.
