I am soooo excited to share with you some of my favourite body products, all from Victoria’s Secret (no this is not a sponsored post, I really love their products that much). A friend of mine brought me to Victoria’s Secret one day and told me I had to try out everything. She binges on Victoria’s Secret so it was only right as her friend that I join her, now I understand why she does. Continue reading to find out what Victoria’s Secret body products I use.

 

I like to layer products and especially layer similar or complementary scents, I feel that the scent lasts longer throughout the day. I’m also really big about hydration so if you feel that there are two many moisturizing layer, take out whatever does not work for you.

  1. First up, the Shea Ultrarich Cream Wash. This smells so yummy, I spend way too much time in the shower (don’t judge me water-saving people) due to the scent. It’s very creamy as stated in its name and doesn’t strip my skin of moisture. Is it as hydrating as my Dove Body Washes no, but it’s pretty up to par and the scent is the added bonus.
  2. Right after the body wash, I apply the Açai Weightless Body Oil while my skin is still damp. It’s a dry finish oil so you will not feel greasy and for those of you who do not need intense moisture, you can stop here.
  3. I always spray the Sheer Love Fragrance Mist after the Body Oil since I had heard once that you should apply Vaseline to areas where you spray your perfume to make it stick. So, with the same principle, I apply my body spray onto skin that has oil on it, it’s not Vaseline, but it’s close enough.
  4. Now for those of us who are just extra in everything that we do, you can follow up with the Açai Hydrating Body Lotion which is what I always do. The Açai scent is my favourite from the collection, it’s very light, fresh and girly and blends well with the Sheer Love Spray.  This lotion is very lightweight, it absorbs quickly and does not leave behind any residue (neither does the oil).
  5. This is the heavy-hitter, the Shea Supersoft Body Butter. I never apply this during the day, I find it too heavy, but it’s perfect at night. With the heater on blast, this helps make sure I don’t wake up with parched skin. It’s very creamy,  I just wish they had this in the scent of Açai or Sheer Love.
  6. As mentioned above, I stock up on Victoria’s Secret body products whenever possible and with good reason, the Exfoliating Polish is nowhere to be found. I’m going to guess that it was a limited edition product. I love it because it’s gritty enough to ensure exfoliating action, but the oil in the product helps maintain your moisture. If it does ever come back, buy at least ten and you should be good!

When I was working as a cosmetician, I was often asked by clients what was the secret to beautiful skin. Of course, there are the myriad of products as well as the basics; cleansing your skin day and night, moisturizing, sun protection and finding products that are suitable for your skin type and skin needs. But the biggest “secret” of all is sticking to your regimen day and night – sounds to simple to be true? When clients would come back to the store to return products, their number one complaint was that they were not working. I would ask if they had been following the regimen daily and some clients would hesitate before telling me that it was more like every other day. And for those who had been using the products religiously, I would ask how long it’s been, most likely than not it was just a couple of days. Of course, you should stop using products that are irritating or if you’re suffering from an allergic reaction, but you should give new products at least three weeks to work. This does not mean that you will see results until the three week mark, but in order to determine what a product can do for your skin, it needs time to work. You must be diligent and stick to your new regimen for a while. You should also avoid trying five new products at the same time, slowly start introducing products into your regimen one at a time. You can keep a diary of how your skin is reacting to the product (this is especially good for those suffering from more severe skin issues (or have reactive skin) as it allows you to track your progress and eliminate products that are doing zilch).

Not everything is a quick fix, remember that!

Thought I’d share a product I’ve newly introduced into my skin care regimen. I first heard about this from Gabrielle Union, she shared in an Elle magazine interview that her glow is partly due to using 100% Pure Camellia Oil. And have you seen her skin?! If it’s good enough for Gabrielle, it’s good enough for me. Upon researching, the brand Silkia had pretty good reviews.

I’ve been using it for about a month now and so far so good. Paired with my humidifier, I’ve been able to manage my dehydrated skin and I’ve started getting back my glow (in my head, I glow like J. Lo).

The oil is not too thick, there’s no unpleasant smell or really any smell. I apply it after my evening moisturizer, a couple of drops in my hand, then I pat it onto my face before massaging in circular motions. My  skin feels more plump and I haven’t broken out, been excessively oily, it has mainly been an added moisturizing component to my facial routine. For now, it’s a keeper, but I do want to continue trying out a few more oils before I can stamp this as holy grail.

Since we’re still in January and we’re all looking to be new and improved versions of ourselves, I thought I’d let you all in on my skin care secrets.

Here are my fail-proof skin rules that I usually refer to as my skin commandments:

  1. Drink More Water: This is an obvious one, but it truly does make a difference in the way you feel and the way you look. Water doesn’t necessarily hydrate the skin in the way we believe it does, but I always know when I’m suffering from dehydration, my skin starts eating up my makeup. I have an app of my phone “Water Drink Reminder” which reminds me every ten minutes to drink water.
  2. Cleanse Your Skin Twice Daily: You must wash your face; at night it’s a requirement and in the morning you can splash some water on your face if you prefer. You do not want to go to bed with traces of makeup, dirt or oil which can lead to clogged pores, breakouts and dull skin. At the very least, keep makeup wipes close by to use when exhausted.
  3. Load Up On Antioxidants: Antioxidants are vitamins and nourishment for your skin. Some, like Vitamin C, increase the effectiveness of your sunscreen and fight off free radical damage that lead to signs of aging. I prefer to use them in the form of a serum as it penetrates better.
  4. Moisturize Your Skin: And when I say to moisturize your skin, I do not mean slapping it on, but massaging your moisturizer into your skin in circular motions. It helps increase circulation, I totally believe in facial exercises.
  5. Protect Your Face: Sunscreen is  a must! The damage caused by UV rays can caused irreversible damages. You want a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 that protects both from UVB (burning) and UVA (aging) rays.
  6. Exfoliate at Least Once or Twice a Week: Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells that can dull your skin and also gets rid of any flakes you may have. I prefer chemical exfoliation as it gives you a deeper exfoliation and can really get into your pores. If you do use a physical scrub, opt for one with spherical beads to avoid scratching your skin.
  7. Retinoids: Retinoids are a God send and help with so many skin issues. They help with acne, aging, dark spots, etc. Retinoids basically tell your skin to act right.
  8. Hands Off: This was my worst habit as a teenager. I was constantly touching and picking at my skin. This can lead to scarring and dark spots. By touching your face, you could also be transferring bacteria, so make sure after you’ve completed your morning or nightly routine, no more touching!
  9. Sleeping Beauty: So, we are all already aware that sleep deprivation is never a good thing for your skin (think dark circles and a grey cast), but you can also optimize your sleeping beauty routine with the following tricks. I sleep on a satin pillowcase, unlike cotton, it won’t dry out your skin or your hair. I routinely change my pillowcase as well. I also turn on my humidifier at night which makes my skin super soft in the morning.
  10. Jump Rope: Last but not least, exercising. I believe a dose of cardio can be rejuvenating to your skin. Naomi Campbell in her New Beauty interview had said that jumping rope keeps her skin taut. A friend had shared that her dermatologist told her to jump rope to help with her acne. Get your blood pumping and add some sort of cardio to your daily routine.

It was in high school that I decided it was time to find my “look”. It was only fitting because I was 15 and on my way to adulthood of course, it was time to establish my beauty identity. Looking back, it went far from well, I was basically a teenage girl in drag. I would apply MAC’s Amber Lights gold eye shadow all over my lid and then I would follow with Shadowy Lady, it’s a dark purple that I would apply all over my crease. I would then load up on L’Oreal Double Extend mascara in Carbon Black (whyyyy was the original discontinued). It didn’t end there, I also wore a hot pink Rimmel lipgloss every day with an Annabelle blush to match. Keep in mind, that all of this was after I had caked on loads of foundation, concealer and powder on my face. My beauty identity continued to evolve, but one thing has never changed: my quest for beautiful skin. My beautiful skin requirements are blemish-free, even toned, poreless and free of fine lines. I know it’s a stretch, but there are certain steps that you can take towards achieving a beautiful complexion. It’s not so much the need for perfect skin, but more so creating an environment where you nourish the skin you’re in.

Thought I’d share with two of my favourite skin care products:

  • La Roche Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel: This has been my ride or die cleanser for years now. I discovered it years ago when I was working as a cosmetician at a local pharmacy. It doesn’t leave my skin dry and it removes all traces of makeup. Also, the pH is at a suitable level to ensure your skin isn’t left irritated.
  • La Roche-Posay Ultra-Fluid Lotion SPF 60: This sunscreen is the bomb! I’ve been using it since it was first released years ago. It dries matte and you’re not left with a gray cast. I wear sunscreen every day, no matter what.
